Back Care
Why your lower back pain keeps returning
Five common daily triggers and what you can change today.
Back pain often settles for a few days and then returns because the irritation improves, but the factors that keep loading the area do not. The answer is rarely perfect posture or avoiding movement. A better approach is to notice patterns, rebuild capacity and change habits gradually.
1. Long periods in one position
Sitting is not automatically harmful, but staying still for hours can make a sensitive back feel stiff. Change position regularly, stand for a short task or take a two-minute walk before discomfort builds.
2. Doing too much after a good day
When pain eases, it is tempting to complete every pending chore at once. A sudden jump in activity can irritate tissues that are not yet ready. Increase walking, lifting and exercise in small, repeatable steps.
3. Avoiding movement because of fear
After a painful episode, normal bending can feel unsafe. Avoiding it completely may reduce confidence and strength. A physiotherapist can help you reintroduce movement at a manageable level.
4. Sleep, stress and recovery
Poor sleep and high stress can increase pain sensitivity. They may not be the original cause, but improving recovery routines often makes rehabilitation easier.
5. Treating symptoms without a plan
Heat, massage or rest may provide short-term relief. Lasting progress usually needs a plan that also develops mobility, strength and tolerance for your daily demands.
